Let’s Take a Little Tour!

Is this program PERFECT for you?

You are tired of learning English just for the sake of learning it

You crave to take your skills to the next level and make the language truly useful in your life. You want to DO something with your English: find resources, learn new skills, make new friends, study abroad, find a better job, expand your business on a global scale etc.

You’re not interested in English

That’s really a deal-breaker because our community is created for people who want to bring English to life!

You want someone trustworthy to show you the way

You feel stuck, but you don’t know why. Another possibility is that you know exactly why you are stuck, but you don’t know how to get unstuck. In both cases, you can benefit from professional coaching.

You expect to get results just by joining the membership

Unfortunately, you must put in effort to see real change. I’m here to help you every step of the way, but I cannot do the work for you. Joining the community will give you the best possible opportunity to improve your English, but the act of joining alone isn’t enough. English Ever After is not a magic pill. Your grand entrance is just the beginning of this story.

You are genuinely passionate about the English language

You want to discover the beauty of the English language and immerse in an 100% English community full of like-minded friends who have the same goal of bringing English into their lives.

You just want quick answers

Let’s get this straight: I refuse to spoon-feed anyone information. Instead, I will make you think and find your way to the solution. If you think that’s a waste of your time and expect me to do the thinking for you, I’m sorry, I cannot help you — but no hard feelings!

You are willing to use English (and ONLY English) to participate in the program

You are willing to do so even if you know you may make mistakes. Mistakes are fantastic! Here in English Ever After, we embrace mistakes because we can learn from them.

You are IN A HURRY to submit an application or do a presentation

We do have members who are currently preparing to apply to various programs. You can certainly ask for help in English Ever After, and I promise to give you constructive feedback, but I will also insist that you take the time to properly understand and learn all the necessary skills. That said, I do offer a separate proofreading service and presentation/interview consulting.

Abby is the most patient and passionate English instructor I've ever met.

Describe Abby as an instructor.

Abby is the most patient and passionate English instructor I've ever met. Believe me-I’ve been learning English diligently for more than 10 years since junior high. If you missed out the opportunity to celebrate with her on her big birthday last December, you would probably think she is an old, kind, peaceful grandmother type of being who is full of wisdom in every aspect of life, not just in helping people with English. She is indeed full of wisdom, and young and lively as well. She embraces both the classics and newly trends, which makes learning itself full of reflections of the past, inspirations for the future and surprises at the moment. Her experience and expertise in English and language learning give her a pair of keen eyes that can right spot on problems that couldn't be otherwise figured out by myself. Meanwhile, she is modest and no harsh at all, and these qualities of her make learning with her a breeze. Meeting her is a life-changing experience for me! I should have come here and join the program earlier.

Did you hesitate before joining us?

Yes, I hesitated a bit when the door was not yet open to the public. At that time, all I had for a taste of this membership was a succinct description about how it works and Abby’s Facebook page, where she explains and realizes her philosophy: Teaching and learning in an organic way. I signed up for newsletters and simultaneously put myself on the waiting list. This way I received a free pamphlet on Abby’s suggestions about how to overcome obstacles in learning English. After weeks of reading her posts on Facebook page, waiting and pondering, I soon realized I was making it a right place to ask for help in learning and it was not a decision made in the heat of the moment. The day it opened to the public (and as far as I know it was a limited-time offer), I hesitated no more and instantly joined the membership for a year.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then

I felt like my journey in learning English once stopped and stuck on the day I was back to Taiwan after spending two years studying in a graduate program in the US. I stopped there not because I was lazy or fed up with English. Totally opposite! I got stuck because I was so passionate about English that I’ve tried so many ways to learn it but nothing seemed to work out very well. I couldn’t find a way of learning English that could possibly fit my tight schedule and my interest. To give you an example: I’ve attended two or three writing classes hosted by the university, each of them were at least 12-week long, all were specifically designed for taking TOEFL and GRE exams. I could have joining other writing classes but there wasn’t much left for intermediate-to-advanced learners who were interested in writing, purely. I always found myself losing motivations after working on topics and subjects that were neither appealing nor relevant to my life. I managed to complete the courses but I felt totally frustrated afterwards. Worst of all, I was always among the oldest students in class. And I always had trouble answering the questions that always got asked on the first day of the class: Why are you here? What is your major (I hope there is a major called marriage or parenthood)? What scores you hope to achieve after attending this writing class? I was definitely surrounded by a group of passionate learners who were willing to spend extra hour in improving English but we barely talked before, during and after class. Everyone seemed to be in a rush for something else. Everyone had a tight schedule. We just rushed into the classroom with a nod or a smile to others, and rushed out of it with a good-bye and good night.

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?

I was once skeptical about joining and learning in an online community because all the online things sound unreal to me. I was once wondering: Will I be heard? How could I possibly get helped by someone who I’ve never met or talked to in person? Could Abby get a whole picture of my needs in English in distance? As to the community things, I once doubted what if no one out there is interested in things that I am passionate about? Will the conversations there be shallow, like those with strangers I met in a cocktail party? Could there be sparkles of friendship at all? It turns out that everything is way better and beyond my expectation. I can hardly remember the doubts that I once had if I am not writing here and thinking in a retrospective way. Most important of all, and probably the best in my case, I can learn and share and explore English anytime and anywhere as long as I have an internet connection. It gives me a lot of flexibility and help me keep my learning alive. Abby manages to make the program run really well in every device. I hardly met any technical issues; if any, it’s rather minor and Abby fixes it in a speed of light. The online setting also give me space and time to contemplate on things that matter to me and I am not pushed to make responses if I am not ready. I am learning on my own pace, I am involving in a lively community, I make progress that I can see, and I enjoy learning with our members and Abby so much!

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?

So far in the community, I really enjoy both working on my own projects of interest and being involved in the lively discussion with other members. It wasn’t easy to talk as freely in English as we do in our mother tongue at first. But it’s getting better little by little with every endeavor I put in each of the posts that I share in this community. What Abby says is totally right: The most effective and efficient way of learning is organic. We learn as we go. A neurology term just manifest the spirit of learning a language: We either use it or lose it. Of course, all of this can’t be achieved merely by opening up an online group, randomly casting some thoughts and everything would automatically grow by itself. It’s not possible without a quality supervisor who work as diligently as you are. It is eye-opening to witness how Abby manages to give individual attention and tailored-made suggests while keeping the vibe of the community that gets people closer to each other! One of the big benefits of joining this community is that I become an active learner rather than a passive receiver of more learning materials. Thanks to the members and Abby’s recommendation, I now feel better at using technologies to help me with learning English and so many other learning in my life. I’ve learned a better way to organize my notes and pieces of information, and thus I work more efficiently and in a smarter way. I enjoy exploring the world of Audio books and E-books so much. How can I miss out the gem for so long? I feel like my learning has been deeply rooted in this membership program and it’s been taken good care of. It’s now trying to extend its growing branches and to reach out the world the best I can.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Abby helps me retrieve many of my long lost or forgotten passions in life. And, to my surprise, such retrieval comes in a natural, smooth and sweet way. Through discussion with other members who coincidentally share the same interest, it encourages me to try my best to use my limited ways of expression to convey the big ideas and passions in life. This membership is entitled to call itself an English learning plus a life coaching program:)

Han-Yun Tseng

Unlike most of English teachers, Abby gives us a way of thinking in English, not just giving us answers.

Describe Abby as an instructor.

Abby is a special teacher. Unlike most of English teachers, Abby gives us a way of thinking in English, not just giving us answers. She is like a coach. I feel beneficial from her guiding us to practice English from everyday life.

Did you hesitate before joining us?

Yes, I did. I was not very sure if I am self-disciplined to learn English by internet.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then

Before joining the membership, I really did not know how and what I can do on learning English. I always felt frustrated. After joining this group, I have much more opportunities to share my interest and opinions in English with the group. That helps me to know that ..wow...English is such a beautiful language what I can express my feeling so well! Besides, Abby helps us to look into the language. English is no more a frightening language for me.

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?

Online learning is very convenient and efficient. I don't have to commute to the class. I can learn English at anytime I am available. Besides, online community include a group of people who have the same goals with me. We can share our difficulties and achievements and learn from others as well.

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?

Now I have more clues to know how to think in English. In this platform, we have a lot opportunities to read how Abby share her thoughts and response. It is a very good observations to me. After all, the logic is so different from Chinese and English. Through Abby's articles or replies, I can easily learn appropriate usages or expressions in English. This really helps me a lot!

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I think the most appealing portion to me at this platform is the forum. Members can share a lot of ideas and got response from others quickly. This type is more or less like Facebook. The interaction among us is very interesting. Learning English becomes a down-to-earth thing, which not just for taking exams or textbooks.

Yusan

This community is like my personal playground of learning.

Describe Abby as an instructor.

The first time I met Abby was in my company. My department engaged Abby as our English teacher, and she came to our office once every week. She always teaches us English from our life. She can build a learning web for us and starts from one concept to gradually link to other topics. From her teaching, we can learn a lot more concepts and words from these discussions. I really love to learn some new concepts or knowledge by learning English. I think we learn English because it’s a window which can let us see the world. Abby is an excellent guide to English and new knowledge for me!

Did you hesitate before joining us?

Since I’ve known Abby’s teaching style previously, I didn’t hesitate to join the community. On the contrary, after Abby didn’t teach us in my company, I asked my colleague, Paulina, about whether there was any opportunity that I can learn from Abby privately. Before long, Abby built her new learning community and I could learn from Abby again.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then

When I was a student, I learned English mainly from my school and cram schools. They could help me get good grades, but I don't think I really know how to use English in that time. After I graduated from my school, I seldom learned English actively in my first job. I don't need to communicate in English so I didn't think I needed to spend my time to learn it. That degenerated my English skill a lot. When I had a chance to get a new job in my current company, I found I need to polish my English because we use English to send mail and communicate mostly. At the beginning, I signed up a big class in a cram school. However, I felt it's inefficient because many of those materials I've learned previously. After I learned from Abby, I finally understood that I didn't need to study English that hard. I could learn it from my life. It's useful to learn a topic which interests me by reading its English articles. I also started to try to read English novels and use English to English dictionary. In conclusion, the biggest change is I find learning English can be fun!

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?

This community is like my personal playground of learning. Abby guides us to have weekly challenges and hosts some live sessions to help us learn English. Besides assignments, I can join book clubs and raise English questions I have. In a big class, the teacher can't take care of each student. They can only provide us with a general material. In Abby's community, I can learn what I want from Abby and other members.

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?

This community gives me an opportunity to learn different topics in English. It gives me momentum to learn English every day. I have a habit to learn English every day now. I usually listen to audio books in my commuting time. Also, I can always ask my questions in the community.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I believe Abby will constantly upgrade our community and I can improve my English skill here every day.

Eric Weng ... Accountant

The more time I spend in this community, the more I learn from it.

I have been learning English with Abby for four years. It started from a small group. Abby firstly impressed me by her teaching style: The class topic was interesting and well designed with extensive knowledge and comprehensive content. After the group class, I continued to work with Abby at 1 on 1 class. The class fulfilled my needs, and it was more focused on reading and writing. Abby’s class was always challenging, and the assignment was never easy. I worked with her on writing essays, and I found the key of writing is to practice with helpful guidance. I had gained more confidence in writing from this period of learning.

Abby is never satisfied with what she has accomplished. She continues to develop her own working style and makes English learning more interesting. Recently she established an English learning platform called English Ever After. When I heard the news from her, I joined this community right away. It has been ten months until now, and I am very delighted to share what it looks like and how it works here.

The key areas in English Ever After:

  1. Weekly Member Challenges: We have Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking assignment for a specific topic. The challenges are structured to cover the substance substance/style-related (reading/listening) along with a creation-focused challenge (writing/speaking). Once we complete the challenge, we will get Abby’s feedback and correction note to modify our work and rephrase it into a better work.
  2. Live Sessions: There are two live sessions in one month, and the subject varies from grammatical tense, punctuation, pronunciation to useful planning tools… etc.
  3. Book Reading Club: Abby selected books for members to vote, and it came up with top two books. This year, I am mostly interested in reading “Thanks for the Feedback” as it may apply to both my work and life. Last year, I had completed reading of “Obstacle is the Way”, and I found it is very inspiring. When I look back on this progress, I realize it has been my most effective reading as I followed my reading plan and achieved my goal (I should say sometimes I was a bit late, but I still make it to complete by year end). Plus, the notes I kept and the feedback I received make this reading more complete.
  4. Personal Project: Abby encourages every member to create his/her project, and she is closely working with us to provide advice. My project in 2016 is to write notes after watching one TV show and pick out a moment/scene/an event in each episode to analyze in detail. The show I picked up is “Orphan Black” which is an American science fiction series. I love the show so I found analyzing the scene in English is indeed a pleasant learning.

The more time I spend in this community, the more I learn from it. I think I will continue to work with Abby and enjoy the learning with this community.

This community helps bring English to my own life.

Describe Abby as an instructor.

When I first saw you, I was very very excited. It's like a dream came true. I've always admire you and want to talk to you face to face. You were elegant and slim. The clothes you wore made me think you're very professional. (Of course you are professional, but your outfit shows that you care about your job.)You have good attitude, and you are hard-working. You respect your job, and you care about your clients. I can feel that you really want to help us to master our English and bring it to life. You want to help us success which I think is very precious. You are very patient, and you can always give helpful advise. You really know how to encourage others. You are an awesome instructor.

Did you hesitate before joining us?

Yes. I believed that this will definitely be a wonderful place to master my English, but since "online community" was still very new to me, I didn't know what this membership program was about. That's what made me hesitating.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then

This community helps bring English to my own life. In this place, we can use English only, and I think this is a great challenge! At first, I wasn't sure if I could manage to do it, but gradually using English became a habit. And I am not afraid of using it any more. I am more comfortable to use English to express myself. Even though I still have lots and lots to learn. This community does change my point of view towards English. I've always loved this language, but now I love it even more. I was afraid to read lots of words in English. Now I find out that this fear have gone. Amazing!

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?

I can access this community at any time and any place. I don't need to spend time on communication in order to take class at the workshop. I think this is a huge advantage. Learning isn't just about sitting in the classroom. With this online community, no matter where I am, I can come and learn something. Before this membership was launched, I couldn't take Abby's class very often because it costs a lot of time and money from Pingtung to Taipei. But now, it is not a problem any more. I can learn with my favorite coach every day!

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?

  1. Everyone in this membership is kind and generous to give each other compliments and advise. The best part about the community is we can learn from others, support each other and get inspired from other members. Even though we can't see each other, I can feel their sincerity from their comments.
  2. Every month I can get to know more about a specific topic. It opens up my eyes and broaden my horizons. I enjoy reading great articles that you select for us and watching inspiring videos. I don't need to worry about the quality of the articles or videos.

Thank you so much for contributing so much effort in our membership program. Abby, you are a very awesome coach! I want to thank you for doing so much for all of us. I feel so honored to be part of this membership.

Betty ... Student

This community is truly an extraordinary study group. I’m so proud being its member!

Describe Abby as an instructor.
1) Abby is a creative, innovative, forward-thinking, visionary, thoughtful, supportive, energetic and passionate instructor and coach.
2) She doesn’t believe in spoon-feeding teaching method; therefore, people who are used to get quick answers would be disappointed and puzzled when they ask Abby questions. Instead, she would guide you to find out the answers by yourself, which is truly an effective way to learn.
3) She creates a lively real life all English learning environment, in which you can learn English anytime, anywhere.
4) She provides every opportunity to enhance members’ English reading, listening, writing and speaking skills.
5) She invests wholeheartedly a lot of time in developing different methods to help members to learn English efficiently. 6) She is absolutely “insanely” creative in researching and establishing learning materials.

Did you hesitate before joining us?

No, I didn’t hesitate to sign up for the class; but, yes, I did hesitate about signing up for how long. At that time, I wasn’t sure if the class would be too demanding for me to commit. After I joined the class, I realized that the resources were always there and I could learn at my own pace.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then

The way I used to learn English was through textbooks, exercises and English-Chinese dictionary along with memorizing vocabulary. Now, I learn English in an organic way via looking up English dictionary, reading articles, transcribing speeches, watching TV programs, making audio recordings, using new words in writing, and discussing any topics with Abby and my dear members online.

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?

Before: The classes were one (teacher) to many (students) lecture-style teaching and learning. Interaction was limited. If I had any questions, I needed to wait until the next class to ask.

Now:
1) The teaching & learning in our online community is not only one (Abby) to many (members) but also many (members) to (members).
2) The teaching & learning is not limited to lectures as they are in some of our Live Sessions. I also learn a lot from exercises, revisions and discussions.
3) As a result of the various teaching materials provided by Abby, I’ve learned more than English. For example: I’ve learned mind-sets, personalities, etc.
4) The replies and feedback are prompt.
5) The learning environment is supportive. It is as if I have a personal coach and a cheerleading squad.
6) All the material, which I consider as a gold mine, can be revisited anytime, as many times as I need.
7) I can learn at my own pace. Nevertheless, the more I involve, the more I can learn. The process is very rewarding.

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?

The biggest benefit of joining English Ever After is that I’m learning English not only from Abby but also from other members; and what I’ve learned from this community is not only English but also everything other than English. The diversity of members, who are with different talents and experiences, has expanded my horizon. The learning process has made my life much more interesting and rewarding.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

If I am asked to use one word to wrap up what I think about English Even After, the word is FUN. This community is truly an extraordinary study group. I’m so proud being its member!

BiHwei Tseng

It's a wonderful thing to "join" your dream and be a member of it.

Describe Abby as an instructor:
Abby is able to figure out my problems and then help me to design plans to resolve them. She is willing to share her experiences and lead me go forward. The most important thing is she always say: baby-steps. Because she knows the growth needs time.

Did you hesitate before joining us?
No! I was excited to imagine which level of my English will achieve.

Describe how you used to learn English before joining us & how have things changed since then
Before join this community, I only had exposure to English-related things one or two times per week. I wanted to impove my English ability, but there was a invisible gap over there. Now, I use English every day. I read English classics and share my experiences in English.

What is it like to learn in this online community and how is this experience different from classes you've attended before?
Learning in this online community is convenient for me. I can use any pocket of time to join it. This online course targets to my own goals. It customizes your learning steps.

What would you say are the big benefits of joining this membership?
The fantastic thing is we also joining other people's learning goals. It expands my horizon. It is like we join a meeting to see what other people think and investigate, others' ideas will inspire us.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Abby is always there to help us.

Words for Abby:
It's a wonderful thing to "join" your dream and be a member of it. My English abilities of speaking, reading, listening and writing grow rapidly this year. I am not afraid of speaking English with good English speaker now. It is due to your "dream". I remembered what you wrote in March (2016) — you wanted to bring us up to another level. I experience it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an English only program?
Yes! This community is designed to help you bring English to life, so the only language that is allowed in the membership is English. Don’t worry though — we do not expect perfection. We believe that in order to bridge the gap between book knowledge and life, we must try to use the language first, and it’s the act of trying that’s important. I promise I’m here to help you. In time, you will find that it’s so much easier to experience the world in English!
How much time do I need to spend on the membership?
It really depends on your schedule! Typically, our member spends at least 1-3 hours on the program each week. You can definitely do more than that if your schedule allows! What matters is that you’re investing your time in improving your English, and I recommend at least an hour a week.
What if I'm really busy?

Being busy is totally understandable!

I created a membership instead of a class because I know that real life often gets in the way of our learning, but I believe with some flexibility, we can continue to improve in spite of our tight schedules. We each do what we can, and our only focus is that we improve over time — not in comparison to anyone but to ourselves.

I definitely won’t get upset with you or think any less of you if you are sometimes too busy to participate in our activities. I will check in with you to see if everything’s ok, but I don’t expect you to live your life in the community.

In fact, we have members who lead very busy lives. To give you just a few examples we have encountered: freelancers get big projects that suddenly take up all of their time, accountants are always busy at the end of each month, students seem to vanish before every major exam, and mothers are often more preoccupied during the summer because their kids are at home. All of this is perfectly fine! There’s no such thing as falling behind.

Although we will continue to do new challenges, participate in live sessions and engage in discussions while you’re away, you do not need to make up everything you miss during this time. I encourage you to simply move on with us — our community is designed in a way so that you can rejoin us whenever you’re free again. If something is important enough, surely, it will come up again sooner or later, and we will deal with it then.

That, my friend, is the beauty of moving at your own pace!

Couldn't I just learn English on my own?

Sure you could, but there’s always the risk of aimlessness and confusion. So many people who learn English on their own lose the motivation to keep making progress, or they get lost and don’t know what to do next, so they waste too much time searching for tips and strategies that may turn out to be misguided. As a member in English Ever After, you can enjoy professional guidance every step of the way and put your time to better use.

You will also find that the community itself is a powerful source of inspiration. Take a look at what one of our members said:

“I was really passive until recently, I discovered that many fellow members in this forum have improved a lot as I read their writing on Plans and Projects. I was motivated by their effort. Their hard work is the spur to push me to work hard even though I usually don’t study during summer vacation and winter vacation. I like the way the membership shows us each other’s work, so I can see how other people learn and think.”

Why take the lonely road when you can go on your epic adventure in great company AND enjoy all the flexibility of flying solo?

What kind of equipment will I need?
As long as you have an internet connection, you can access our platform from any device: computers, tablets, smartphones etc. I personally prefer to use a computer because I can do more on a keyboard, but I know plenty of people can achieve the same results using touch devices.
I am worried that my English isn't good enough for the membership...

Don’t worry! My only requirement is that you can read this page without using a translator. This DOES NOT mean that you need to know every single word on the page; you just need to understand the greater message. The reason I have this requirement is that we will only use English in our program, so you need to have a basic understanding of the language.

Remember: Our goal is to learn to use the language better, so I definitely do not expect your English to be perfect already. Come and learn with us! I will help you, so you have nothing to worry about.

Do you offer a refund?

No, I don’t because this program is designed for people who are committed to their own improvement, and it is created by someone (=me) who is just as dedicated to this cause. Once you join, I will do everything I can to help you. If you struggle with something, you can always talk to me, and I will help you figure out a solution or make changes as necessary.

It’s normal to encounter difficulties as you make progress. I’m here for you!
